Sean Payton’s perspective on the Denver Broncos’ struggles has changed following their 13-6 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers at Empower Field.

The head coach is taking responsibility for the team’s lackluster performance, acknowledging that changes are necessary to improve their 0-2 start.

The Broncos’ offensive woes are evident, with only 26 points scored in two games, four of which came from the defense.

Their running game is particularly concerning, as their top backs average a meager 2.3 yards per carry.

Rookie quarterback Bo Nix has thrown more interceptions in the red zone than the team has scored touchdowns, highlighting the offense’s inefficiency.

Denver Broncos beat reporter Zac Stevens suggests Payton is considering simplifying the offensive strategy.

He stated, “I think reducing the variables can help. It’s something that I think you have to look at as a coach. You have to start, ‘All right, what could we do better?’ I think that’s one of the things that we’ve talked about quite a bit.  How do we reduce the variables, and then who’s doing it? Those two things I would point to.”

The disconnect between Payton’s pre-game emphasis on running the ball and the actual in-game strategy is particularly notable.

Despite stressing the importance of a strong running game to support Nix, the Broncos seemingly abandoned this approach against the Steelers, even as their defense kept the game close.

Ironically, Nix leads the team in rushing with 60 yards, primarily from scrambles.

As the Broncos move forward, Payton’s focus on simplifying the offense and reassessing player roles could be pivotal in turning their season around.

The coming weeks will reveal whether these adjustments can translate into on-field improvements and, ultimately, victories for Denver.
