14-year-old punished for doping in Russia – banned for a long time – Dagsavisen

It was in May 2023 that the talent gave a sample that showed traces of turinabol. Until this autumn, the case was not publicly known.

– The athlete has not been able to explain how the banned substance ended up in her body, says a representative Paw on behalf of the Russian Anti-Doping Agency (Rusada).

According to the news agency, the 14-year-old swimmer is the youngest ever to be banned from Russian sports. Russia has had a doping problem for a long time, and in recent years there have been several examples involving young athletes.

In 2022, figure skater Kamila Valijeva was thrown out of the Beijing Olympics as a 15-year-old. The reason was that during the Games it became known that she had tested positive for the heart medication trimetazidine a few months earlier.

Tass writes that 17 Russian athletes are currently serving a ban they received when they were under 18 years old.
