2 dogs, possibly 10 cats killed in San Fernando Valley mobile home fire

Firefighters found two dogs and about 10 cats dead and rescued nearly a dozen other pets from a mobile that caught fire in the Lake View Terrace neighborhood of Los Angeles Friday morning.

Crews arrived to find the manufactured home on the 12000 block of West Foothill Boulevard well involved in fire around 8:30 a.m.

A female patient evaluated at the scene declined transport after crews knocked down the blaze.

The Fire Department said eight cats and two dogs were rescued in unknown conditions from the home. However, “there were sadly about 10 cats and 2 dogs deceased in the structure,” the Fire Department stated.

Of the four people living in the home, only one was there at the time of the fire.

The cause was determined to be a cooking fire which spread through the home, the Fire Department said.

It was unclear if the home was equipped with any functioning smoke alarms.
