according to The online newspaper Viking and David Brekalo agree on a new contract.
– It is true that he has received an offer from us, and we hope to agree, says Vikings sports manager Erik Nevland to RA.
Brekalo’s original contract expires in the 2024 season, while the new one is due to expire in 2025. When an extension is in the works, Viking will probably get paid better by selling the centre-back, who has already been clear that the dark blues are only a step on the career ladder.
He was unsure last autumn whether he wanted to be part of Viking in 2023.
– The plan when I came here was also that I would eventually be sold on, Brekalo told RA in autumn 2022.
Now the Slovenian has been with the dark blues throughout the season run-up and seems to have more ice in his stomach considering when the next step will be taken.
There has been interest in David Brekalo from foreign clubs throughout the winter, but there has not been enough money involved for it to have been interesting for Viking and the player himself.
After the signing of Brekalo is in the works, the next on the Vikings’ list will be his stopper mate Gianni Stensness. The Australian has a contract with the dark blues until June 2024, and has won two games for Australia’s national team. The duo has been central to the Vikings during the periods in which the dark blue have dominated on the field.
