The Carolina Panthers sent shockwaves throughout the NFL when they announced they would be benching Bryce Young in favor of veteran Andy Dalton.

This was an unprecedented move that no one saw coming as Young was thought to be the long-term answer to their quarterback woes, but now appears set to ride the bench for the foreseeable future.

The swift decision to bench Young almost assures that his time in Carolina is done, though head coach Dave Canales has emphatically denied that notion.

Still, this is quite the indictment on Young who has not looked any better in his sophomore season.

Young has been shaky in dropping back to pass and seems to struggle with the pace and physicality at the NFL level.

While Young would make sense as a reclamation project for some teams, the Panthers have already denied several suitors via Jay Glazer of FOX.

The #Panthers rejected trade offers from 4 teams for QB Bryce Young,” Glazer reported.

It seems that Carolina might be holding out hope that Young can develop behind the scenes and turn into a starter at some point.

The organization’s refusal to trade Young could also come down to the attractiveness of the offers they’ve gotten as other teams are surely looking to acquire the former No. 1 overall pick on the cheap.

Regardless, it seems that the Panthers will now lean on Dalton to lead their offense for the time being.

The team desperately needs a win to build some positive momentum this season, though Young will be watching them try to do that from the sidelines.
