4 WPIAL golfers in contention for PIAA titles

Elizabeth Forward junior Mya Morgan used six birdies to grab a 2-shot lead at the PIAA Class 3A girls golf championship Friday at the Penn State University’s White Course.

She shot a 4-under-par 68 to lead Plymouth-Whitemarsh senior Rhianna Gooneratne, who shot a 70.

Peters Township junior Ellie Benson is tied for fourth at even-par (72).

The other WPIAL girls competing include Pine-Richland sophomore Siena Smith (80), Peters Township freshman Betty Glyptis (81), Peters Township senior Sophia Severns (83), Peters Township senior Brooke Vowcheck (84), North Allegheny junior Kayli Dings (86) and Moon sophomore Liv DeGori (90).

The final in all classifications is Tuesday.

Peters Township senior Colton Lusk put himself in good position to make a run at the PIAA Class 3A individual golf championship.

Lusk shot a 5-under 67 and is a shot behind Cedar Crest junior Dylan Ramsey, who shot 6-under 66s.

Fox Chapel sophomore Carson Kittsley is tied for fourth after shooting a 4-under 68.

Plum senior Wes Lorish is tied for 17th at 1-under 71 along with Upper St. Clair senior Connor McKenzie, North Allegheny junior Ravi Desai and North Allegheny senior Christopher Hoffman.

Belle Vernon junior Jordan Mocello is tied for 24th at even-par 72.

Other WPIAL golfers competing include West Allegheny freshman Nico Ward (73), Franklin Regional junior Colton Holt (74), South Fayette junior Sam Bishop (76), Baldwin sophomore Michael Quallich (77), Pine-Richland senior William Hilton (78) and Peters Township senior Griffin Hansberry (79).

Taylor Allderdice junior Liam Gedris shot a 90.

Quaker Valley senior Ethan Dai and Our Lady of the Sacred junior Jonah Schollaert are in the hunt for the Class 2A title on the Penn State Blue Course.

Dai shot a 4-under 68 and is tied for the lead with Schuylkill Haven sophomore Alan Evans.

Schollaert is a shot back after a 3-under 69.

Dai’s teammate Nolan Wagoner is tied for seventh at even-par, and River Valley junior Jake Pynos is 10th at 1-over.

Other WPIAL golfers in striking distance include Elizabeth Forward sophomore Aaron Didjunas (74), Neshannock sophomore Rocco Bautti (74), Beaver County Christian senior Tylr Guevara (75) and Greensburg Central Catholic senior Braden Riley (76).

WPIAL champion Alyssa Zhang, a freshman at Shady Side Academy, is tied for third after shooting a 3-over par.

St. Joseph’s Catholic Academy junior Madison Koshko leads at 1-over ahead of Kate Sowers, a junior at West Middlesex, at 2-over.

Chartiers-Houston freshman Jo Jo Jaskulski is tied for 10th at 7-over.
