– Remember what Donald Trump did – Dagsavisen

– We have no preferred candidate in the US presidential election, says Sergei Lavrov in an interview with the Turkish newspaper Hurriyet. Also the Russian state news agency Paw has mentioned the matter.

Republicans Donald Trump and the Democrats Kamala Harris fighting to stay USAs next president in the election on November 5.

– Remember, for example, what Trump did when he was president. He imposed a record number of sanctions on us compared to his predecessors, says Russias foreign minister further.

– The US sees us as an enemy and a threat

Lavrov has also earlier argued that the Kremlin spends little energy on the outcome of the US presidential election.

– The US political establishment, regardless of party affiliation, sees Russia as an enemy and a threat, Lavrov said in an interview with the Brazilian newspaper O Globo earlier this year.

– During the four years he was president (2017-2021, journ.am.), Trump did nothing to improve relations between the United States and Russia, added the Russian foreign minister.

Now Lavrov repeats these claims. He says nothing will change if Trump and the Republicans win in the United States, which he has described as an anti-Russian country.

– No matter who wins, we see no sign of a change in America’s Russophobic (irrational fear of Russia and Russians, journ.anm.) attitude, thunders the veteran.

Regarding Russian claims about Russophobia, researcher Karsten Friis at the Norwegian Foreign Policy Institute (Nupi) has told Dagsavisen that it is a familiar narrative from the Kremlin that Russia is “demonized” by the West.

– But after the full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022, there is little doubt where the responsibility lies. Not only for the attack, but also for war crimes, kidnapping of children and so on. From a moral point of view, the war is quite black and white, explained Friis.

Trump reportedly called Putin

Dmitry Peskov, spokesman for the Kremlin and the President of Russia Vladimir Putinhas previously made statements which differs somewhat from Lavrov’s in connection with the election in the United States.

– I have no doubt that President Putin would prefer an American president who is more constructive towards Russia, and who understands the importance of dialogue, Peskov said in an exclusive interview with NBC News last year, without mentioning Trump by name.

According to renowned journalist Bob Woodward’s new book War, Trump has spoken with Russian President Putin on the phone up to seven times since he lost the election to Biden in 2020. Trump has not himself confirmed Woodward’s claims, but has, according to the news agency AP stated that “it would be a smart thing for the United States to do” to stay in touch with Russia’s president.
