Matilda Art It is a bazaar that has emerged with the mission of rescuing and celebrating the rich culture and traditions of Mexico. This space is dedicated to supporting emerging talents and communities that face difficult situations, providing a place to market and publicize their artisan brands.
With the Christmas season just around the corner, we had the opportunity to talk with Machel, one of the founders of this project. In our talk, Machel shared with us valuable tips to help us choose the perfect Christmas giftthus supporting the local culture.
Matilda Art: a bazaar with a social purpose
How was Arte Matilda born? This project arose in 2010 from the idea of three friends: Vanessa, Valeria and Machel, with the aim of rescue Mexican crafts and traditionsthus supporting artisan communities and local entrepreneurs.
Art Matilda has allowed many people, (especially women), to generate income and improve their quality of life. Over the years, Machel has witnessed inspiring stories of women who have managed to pay for schools, mortgages and cover family needs thanks to their sales at the bazaar.
“From the beginning, we collaborated with the “Dr. Sonrisas Foundation” and, currently, we support “Fraternidad Sin Fronteras”, a home that provides care to people with severe disabilities.“Machel expressed in an interview.
Through the bazaar, they seek to raise awareness in the community about the importance of participating in social causesencouraging donations to foundations and support for artisans and animal welfare organizations.
The selection of artisans and entrepreneurs It is done through a call launched on its Instagram page (@artematilda). Interested people register using a link.
“We receive around 5,000 applications for each event, but we can only accept a maximum of 150 participants. To carry out the curatorship, we have a committee of eight people, which includes the three partners and five experts in various categories. Everyone participates in the vote to elect the brands that will be part of the bazaar”.

For example, we have a display that sells leather leashes and collars, made and woven by communities. They are beautiful! In addition, we will have an exhibitor who collaborates with a foundation dedicated to the adoption of rescued dogs. They will also offer cookies and food made especially for dogs, all with a pet-friendly approach..” he added.
