The Kragerø politicians defied the mayor – gave the go-ahead for 220 new cabins – Dagsavisen

NRK writes that there was a clear majority in favor of the new cottage town, which will be built in what is now a quarry.

Property investor Ivar Tollefsen is behind the plans. The company Fredensborg has been commissioned to build 220 new cabins and 160 private boat berths in the quarry at Litangen.

Rødt mayor Charlotte Therkelsen tells the channel that she fears sea areas and recreational opportunities will be lost to the general public.

– I have been clear that I do not think this is a good idea, considering the total load in the archipelago and in the area in question. Then the municipal council is of a different opinion. I take note of that.

The municipal economy in Kragerø is under severe pressure. This year, the municipality was put on the Robek list. NRK’s calculations show that the new cabins can provide fresh funds in the municipal coffers in the form of property tax.

If the property tax is 4 per thousand from 2025, the municipality will be able to bring in around NOK 8 million extra with just over 200 new cabins.
