Ruud van Nistelrooy appointed as new manager at Leicester – Dagsavisen

Leicester confirm the appointment in their channels. The Dutchman has a contract until the summer of 2027. He will be present during the team’s away game against Brentford on Saturday and will take over responsibility from Sunday.

– I’m proud, and I’m looking forward to it. Everyone I’ve spoken to about Leicester is enthusiastic. They tell about the quality of the people who work at the club, about the supporters, and of course the club’s recent history is impressive. I look forward to getting to know everyone so I can give my all for the club, says Nistelrooy.

The 48-year-old led Manchester United with great success after Erik ten Hag was fired earlier this autumn. The period as temporary boss ended with a solid 3-0 victory against Leicester.

Had to leave United

Nistelrooy was not allowed to continue at Old Trafford under new manager Ruben Amorim, despite the Dutchman himself expressing that he would like to stay.

Steve Cooper was sacked as Leicester manager earlier this week. The reason was weak results. The blue-clad have one point from the last four games.

In addition to Cooper, his assistant Alan Tate and first-team coach and analyst Steve Rands also left the club. Ben Dawson has been in interim charge pending the appointment of a permanent coach.

Big clubs

The choice fell on Nistelrooy, who after his strong playing career gained coaching experience in PSV Eindhoven’s youth department, before he was assistant to Dutch national team manager Guus Hiddink. He was also head coach at PSV for a period before Erik ten Hag brought him to Old Trafford this summer as his assistant.

In his active career, Van Nistelrooy was a feared goalscorer for clubs such as PSV, Manchester United and Real Madrid, and he scored 35 goals in 70 international matches for the Netherlands.

Leicester have ten points after twelve games in this year’s Premier League season. That’s 16th place in the table.
