Mikalsen has been Brann’s clear lone goalkeeper in recent seasons, but earlier in November it was known that the 28-year-old is done with Brann. Thus, the last chance has to go in search of a new club.
– I spoke to Aurora earlier this week. She is very positive about the future. She wants to find a club that is right for her. That is her focus. We fully support her in that pursuit, and we are always here to help, says national team boss Grainger to NTB.
Mjelde, in turn, signed a short-term contract with Arna-Bjørnar this summer. The Bergen club eventually moved down from the Toppserien. Veteran Mjelde, like last chance Mikalsen, is looking for a new employer.
– It is not unusual for several players to be like this at this time of year. Maren is very focused on her next step in her career. I know that she has conversations with her people, and they are looking at what opportunities there are, says Grainger.
The national team manager tells NTB that both have national team games in the back of their minds in the hunt for a new club.
– Both Maren and Aurora are focused on these two matches, but naturally also focused on the club’s future. They want to play at a level that makes them competitive in terms of national team games.
Both Mikalsen and Mjelde are part of the squad that faces Northern Ireland in the European Championship play-off. The winner redeems a ticket to the championship in Switzerland next summer.
