The Princess Eleanor He received the Asturias medal this Thursday in an event held in the library of the University of Oviedo. A ceremony in which the heir to the throne of Spain took the opportunity to give an emotional speech in which she paid tribute to her mother’s family, Letizia Ortiz.

The young royal, who at 18 has already become a key figure in the Spanish monarchy, moved the public with her words in which she made reference to her Asturian roots and her maternal family that is deeply linked to this region.
“I confess that I came many times with my mother and father to Asturias during my childhood. My Asturian family is very Asturian, they understand me, and from a very young age I was able to get to know the eastern forests and take long walks among those carbay and chestnut trees that are already part of my childhood,” she said at the beginning of her speech.
Also, in this message Princess Leonor remembered her maternal great-grandmotherthe deceased journalist Menchú Alvarez del Valleas well as some moments he spent with her in this region. “Our great-grandmother told Sofía and me what the Asturias was like where she lived and raised her family. We really enjoyed his stories from the radio of that time. I visited beautiful beaches, I saw incredible mountains, valleys and towns,” he noted.
Furthermore, she acknowledged that both she and her younger sister, the Infanta Sofiahave “been very happy” every year that they visit the principality to “promote the values promoted by the Princess of Asturias Foundation.” Something that, without fail, they will also do in 2024.
Finally, Eleanor of Bourbon He showed in his speech the great influence that this region has had on his life. “I carry Asturias in my heart. And it will always be the beloved homeland… the land that gives its name to the title that designates me as Princess and, therefore, servant of Spain, and the place of origin of my maternal family,” she indicated. “I said it in my first speech in Oviedo, in 2019: I have Asturian blood,” he stressed.
On the other hand, this emotional speech was also accompanied by an elegant baby blue suit look, signed by Pedro del Hierron, which he complemented with his mother’s earrings and a silver ring on his right index finger.
