HALIFAX, Nova Scotia (KSNW) — The Maritime Sikh Society says a 19-year-old woman who died in a Halifax Walmart bakery oven was discovered by her mother.
Gursimran Kaur died on Saturday, Oct. 19. The Maritime Sikh Society posted details on a GoFundMe page. They say that her mother, who worked with her at the store, had been searching for her for hours when she found her body in the walk-in oven of the bakery.
The family says she burned to death inside. Halifax Regional Police have not confirmed the cause of her death and say that it is still under investigation.
Kaur and her mother both immigrated from India, where her brother and father still live. The GoFundMe page was created to cover the family’s expenses and help fly her relatives to Canada.
The original goal was for $50,000, but it has raised $130,659 Canadian Dollars. ($94,302.20)
