Norwin senior basketball player Bella Furno announced a commitment to Division II West Virginia Wesleyan.

Furno, a 5-foot-8 swing guard, was a key contributor to last year’s WPIAL Class 6A championship chase. She often came off the bench to give the team a spark.

Furno also had an offer from Shippensburg.

Norwin now has three college commits on the roster. Seniors Kendall Berger and Averi Brozeski are headed to Clarion.

Junior Ava Christopher also is drawing college attention and is expected to play at the next level.

All-section soccer

Norwin had five boys soccer players selected to the All-Section 1-4A team. Daniel Maddock was the section player of the year and a first-team pick, while Dylan Moyer, George Bunovich and Tanner Schneck also were selected.

Ryan Schiller was an honorable mention pick.

The Norwin girls also have five all-section picks in Julia Bursick, Bella Buscemi, Alexa Kobus, Cameryn Reed and Carmella Simco.

Field trip

The Norwin field hockey team advanced to the WPIAL postseason and were primed for a tough draw.

The Knights were tabbed with the No. 4 seed out of four teams and were set to visit No. 1 Pine-Richland in the semifinals. Norwin took a record of 4-12 into the postseason. Pine-Richland was undefeated (18-0).

Hockey looks for win

The Norwin hockey team started the season with three straight losses, the most recent a 7-0 setback against rival Fox Chapel. The Knights were set to visit Hempfield in their first road game of the season.
