Meløy municipality in Nordland has set up a crisis team after major floods on the night of Tuesday, informs the municipality on their websites. There they ask people to avoid traveling in the city centre.
Several places in Nordland have experienced heavy rainfall in recent days. Of these, Lurøy municipality topped the list with 137.2 mm of precipitation in the last 24 hours, the meteorologists write x.
On Meløy, this is exacerbated by snowmelt, according to the municipality’s website.
The large amounts of water in Meløy have led to flooding both at Møbelringen and Rema 1000 on Ørnes, writes Nordland newspaper.
The night’s rain has caused a nearby river to overflow its banks, says supervisor at the 110 central, Trond Løkås to the newspaper.
– We are in the process of clarifying how much water there is before we can get into the buildings. What we do know is that a river has overflowed its banks, so we are in the process of clearing the river so that the water can flow out, says Løkås.
No roads are closed due to the flooding at the shops, according to the Swedish Road Administration’s website.
