Controversial penalty when Inter sank Arsenal in Ødegaard’s comeback – Dagsavisen

Controversial penalty when Inter sank Arsenal in Ødegaard’s comeback – Dagsavisen

The loss was Arsenal’s first in the Champions League this season. From before, the team had two wins and one draw.

That holds for a provisional 13th place in the table after a half-played league game.

The loss was probably extra sour as Inter’s only goal came after a controversial handball situation.

Hakan Çalhanoglu became the match winner when he slotted the penalty into the back of the net behind David Raya.

Hands

After 45 evenly played minutes, Mikel Merino had the ball kicked into his hand, and referee Istvan Kovacs pointed to the chalk mark.

– Can’t we change the rule if there is going to be a penalty? thundered Morten Langli in TV 2’s target show studio.

Thus, Çalhanoglu was able to secure a 1-0 lead into the dressing room at Stadio Giuseppe Meazza.

During the break, the Spanish scapegoat Merino was replaced by the Brazilian striker Gabriel Jesus.

In the 2nd half, Arsenal looked like fireworks and created a number of chances that could have sent the teams level again.

Unfortunately for the visitors, a corner that Denzel Dumfries saved on the line was the closest they got.

Comeback

However, the Arsenal fans got a little boost when Martin Ødegaard was finally seen on the pitch again. The Norwegian was replaced after 92 minutes.

Ødegaard has been out of action since he was injured in the 2-1 win over Austria on 9 September, and there has been great excitement about whether he would make it to the internationals in November.

In the meantime, he has missed two international matches and twelve club matches. The playmaker is on the road to recovery from the ankle injury.

On Tuesday afternoon, however, it became clear that the Norwegian traveled with the rest of the Arsenal squad to Italy.
