– We do this for all mothers and fathers. Social media causes real damage to children, and now I say enough is enough, says Albanese.
He says IT giants and social media platforms must be held responsible for ensuring that users are old enough.
– We should not let that responsibility rest on parents who are concerned about their children’s safety online or on the young people. There will be no penalty for the users, says the Prime Minister.
Albanese announced earlier this year that the government would introduce an age limit for using social media, but this is the first time it has been quantified.
Previous proposals to introduce an age limit have received broad cross-party support. Albanese says the proposal will be presented to the state leaders this week and presented to the national assembly at the end of the month.
Here at home in Norway, the government recently proposed introducing a 15-year limit on social media by amending the Personal Data Act.
