– We are living in a geopolitical turning point, said Eide in his presentation to the Storting on the EU and the EEA on Thursday – the day after Donald Trump’s landslide victory in the US election.
– It is important that we stand together with our most important trading partners and our closest allies in Europe. Here, the EEA agreement is a pillar and a door opener, says the foreign minister.
In his presentation, he emphasized that the EU is now developing new policies both much faster and in more complex ways than before. In that case, it is extremely important that Norway keeps up with the changes, insists Eide.
Clear management and good coordination are crucial, he believes.
– It will be demanding, but it is the most effective way to secure our overall interests in a collaboration that is very important for Norway, says Eide.
