The biggest NBA news this week didn’t concern a trade or signing, but instead was about the retirement of Adrian Wojnarowski.

Wojnarowski shocked everyone when he announced he was stepping away from sports media, which is a move that created a giant vacuum.

Who will become the next Woj and how will his retirement affect other NBA insiders?

According to Front Office Sports, per NBACentral, Wojnarowski’s move could boost the career of Brian Windhorst, who has been reportedly “held back.”

FOS said:

“‘He’s criminally underrated,’ said one source. In fact, sources whisper Wojnarowski’s departure could pave the way for Windhorst’s ascension, that the feeling in some circles is he’s been held back by Woj’s outsized presence.”

NBA fans hear and read plenty from Windhorst but they should expect even more from him in the months and years ahead.

Wojnarowski was the biggest name in the game when it came to scoops about the league and was seemingly very close with some of the best sources in the NBA.

Windhorst is no slouch and has been all over ESPN and the internet with well-sourced and informative reports, but there was no doubt that Wojnarowski was the ultimate NBA insider.

Now that Wojnarowski is gone, Windhorst might be able to rise by breaking more news and having an even bigger presence online and on TV.

This upcoming NBA season will be full of major surprises and changes, and Windhorst will be able to report on them all without being under the shadow of Wojnarowski.

Of course, he won’t be alone and multiple reporters will attempt to become the new Wojnarowski.
