- Manchester United are reportedly targeting Chelsea forward Christopher Nkunku in the January transfer window
- The France international has struggled to get game time at Stamford Bridge and is considering an exit
- Ruben Amorim could look to bolster his attacking unit, especially considering the Red Devils are not scoring enough
Manchester United are reportedly looking to make Chelsea star Christopher Nkunku Ruben Amorim’s first signing in the January transfer window.
The forward has been brilliant in the 2024/25 season, but game time has not come often due to intense competition for places in Enzo Maresca’s squad.
The Portuguese coach has landed in England and will coach his first match on November 24 against Ipswich Town.
Are Man United targeting Nkunku?
According to Metro Sports, Man United are interested in signing Nkunku in January as Amorim’s first signing.
The report adds that with little game time, Nkunku could consider his future at Stamford Bridge.
Blues rivals Man United have been mentioned as one of the clubs interested in the forward. He could help the Red Devils, who are struggling with goals.
Moreover, his versatility allows him to fit seamlessly into Amorim’s 3-4-2-1 formation. The report concludes that Chelsea may be open to let the 26-year-old leave in January.
Nkunku’s lack of game time
The Frenchman has made 17 appearances and scored 10 goals this season but has barely played in the Premier League. His only start in the league was on the opening day against Manchester City, per Transfermarkt.
Most of his appearances have been in the Europa Conference League and League Cup. Fierce competition for places has seen him make brief cameos.
Cole Palmer, Pedro Neto, Noni Madueke, and Nicolas Jackson are the first choice in Maresca’s attacking unit.
“But I try to find solution and balance with all of them but not all of them can be in their position, they have to adapt a bit. It’s for Joao, Christo, Misha [Mudryk, who Maresca was also asked about], they are all players who deserve more chances in the Premier League, but there are also more players who deserve that,” the Chelsea boss said via Football London.
Why Nkunku celebrates with a balloon
Legit.ng earlier explained why Nkunku celebrates with a balloon.
One feature of Nkunku’s celebrations has always been a balloon. At RB Leipzig, he used a red one but switched to blue when he moved to West London.
