Jonathan Kuminga of the Golden State Warriors showed a lot of progress last season but his future with the team still isn’t guaranteed.

In fact, it seems very unlikely that he will get a massive contract extension from the Warriors soon.

Speaking with Tim Kawakami, per Legion Hoops, Kuminga talked about a potential extension with Golden State and accepted where things stand right now.

“Everybody’s got their time when God opens their doors. My door isn’t open yet. At some point it’s going to be open,” Kuminga said.

Kuminga stated that he’s not worrying too much about a potential deal with the Warriors and is instead thinking about how great he can be and how he can help the team.

He believes if he does that, everything else will fall into place like it’s supposed to.

Last season, Kuminga averaged 16.1 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 2.2 assists.

He worked his way up into the starting lineup for many games but that may not be the case in 2024-25.

Head coach Steve Kerr has a few options and wants more from Kuminga.

He wants him to make smarter offensive decisions and shoot better from the three-point line, where he only landed 32.1% of his buckets last year.

He was an asset last season in a year filled with a lot of problems but Kuminga has to keep improving and keep impressing.

Kuminga and Kerr haven’t always seen eye-to-eye but the young star can continue to win him over if he keeps playing well.

He might not get a mega extension from the Warriors this season but Kuminga can still secure his place with the team.
