The Las Vegas Raiders were six-point favorites vs. the Carolina Panthers.

It was their first game at home and fresh off an emotional comeback win over a Super Bowl contender like the Baltimore Ravens.

Unfortunately for them, they could never keep up with the Carolina Panthers, who got their first win of the season after benching Bryce Young.

With that in mind, Tom Byrne urged Antonio Pierce to bench Gardner Minshew and roll with Aidan O’Connell moving forward.

Talking on Mad Dog Sports Radio, Byrne claimed that there is absolutely no point in sticking with a player like Minshew, as everybody knows who he is at this point.

While O’Connell might not be the future, he could give this team some better play, and he believes that Pierce will absolutely consider making the change.

Truth be told, the fact that Minshew beat O’Connell for the starting job should speak volumes about O’Connell’s development — or lack thereof — and the coaching staff’s confidence in him.

Also, while Minshew is by no means the future of the team, it’s not like he had played poorly in the first two games.

We’ve seen this happen way too many times.

A team is hyped up after an emotional win and then overlooks their next opponent, playing flat and without heart.

The Panthers had an emotional game of their own, and chances are they’ll come back to Earth soon enough.

Still, if Minshew struggles in back-to-back weeks, Pierce could consider making a change.
