In the 2022 offseason, the Denver Broncos traded for future Hall of Fame quarterback Russell Wilson and gave him a five-year, $245 million contract.
They likely thought he would make them instant Super Bowl contenders again, and plenty of fans believed it as well.
But the Broncos played poorly and missed the playoffs both years, and they let him go this offseason and went with rookie Bo Nix under center for this season.
But former Broncos safety Justin Simmons defended Wilson, saying that the QB had a lot of adjustments to make after spending 10 seasons with the Seattle Seahawks, per G.O.A.T. Farm Show.

Wilson was the face of the Seahawks starting in the 2012 season, and in just his second season there, he led them to the Super Bowl championship.
He made the Pro Bowl eight times in Seattle, but with the team disintegrating and Wilson unhappy about some coaching staff changes that were made, his exit may have been inevitable.
He is now with the Pittsburgh Steelers, and although head coach Mike Tomlin named him the starter a few weeks ago, he has yet to play this year because of a calf strain.
Upon joining the Broncos, Wilson saw his level of play fall off a cliff, and he threw for just 16 touchdowns while completing only 60.5 percent of his pass attempts in 2022, both of which were career lows.
He was only marginally better last season, and thus Denver decided to pull the plug.
Their decision to trade three players and five draft picks for him is now looking like one of the worst trades in recent NFL history.
