Fighters in Syria could be the prelude to a wider regional war against Israel
The newspaper said Haaretz The Israeli army is following with concern the arrival of about 40,000 fighters from Syria, Iraq and Yemen to the Golan, and they are awaiting the call of Hezbollah Secretary-General Hassan Nasrallah to fight.
The newspaper quoted Israeli security officials as saying that although the 40,000 fighters are not elite, the situation is still worrying.
She added, quoting a senior security source, that the presence of the fighters is dangerous, and that they will intervene in Syria to make it clear to President Bashar al-Assad that they will not accept the presence of fighters in this place, considering that Israel is in a war that could escalate into a much wider regional war.
The newspaper also quoted the security establishment’s estimates that Hezbollah has capabilities that threaten Israel’s maritime arena and economic waters. According to the security source, the party still has a force estimated at more than 100,000 missiles to strike Israel, stressing that Hezbollah’s ability to launch missiles should not be underestimated.
The newspaper added that Israeli security officials criticized the decision of the military and political leadership to artificially separate the northern and southern fronts, and said that the perception is linked to the fact that pressure on Hezbollah will lead to gains in Gaza.
Officials considered that transferring pressure to Hezbollah shows that Israel has abandoned the attempt to overthrow Hamas and recover the detainees, and the newspaper indicated that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu presented in recent security consultations a change in his vision regarding what is happening in Gaza.
Since Monday morning, the Israeli army has been launching the most violent and extensive attack on Lebanon since the beginning of the confrontations with Hezbollah about a year ago, resulting in hundreds of deaths and injuries.

The army said in a statement in Arabic, “Following up on the warnings in the greater Tel Aviv area (Gush Dan) and the Sharon region, we are talking about the launch of a surface-to-surface missile from Lebanon that was intercepted by air defenses.”
Hezbollah announces the killing of leader Ibrahim Qubaisi in a raid targeting the southern suburb of Beirut
In addition, Hezbollah announced on Wednesday that one of its military leaders, Ibrahim Qubaisi, was killed in an Israeli raid that targeted the southern suburbs of Beirut, the stronghold of the pro-Iranian Shiite organization, on Tuesday.
The raid, which destroyed two floors of a building in a densely populated residential neighbourhood in the Ghobeiry area, in the southern suburbs of Beirut, killed at least six people and injured 15 others, according to Lebanese authorities.
The party’s confirmation of the killing of the military leader came hours after the Israeli army announced that “air force fighters attacked the Beirut suburb and killed Ibrahim Muhammad Qubaisi, the commander of the missile system in the terrorist organization Hezbollah.”
