Statistics Norway (SSB) implements The drug investigation annually, funded by the Directorate of Health, to survey the population’s use and habits relating to tobacco, alcohol and other drugs.
The proportion who say they have used cannabis in the past year has increased, and it is the use among men that is the reason. There, the proportion is up from 6 per cent in 2023 to 9 per cent in 2024. Use among women remains stable at 4 per cent.
Otherwise, the use of drugs that has been mapped is fairly stable: One in three people between the ages of 16 and 79 answers that they drink alcohol weekly, while 15 percent snuff daily. This is the same proportion as in 2023. The proportion of daily smokers is slightly up from 7 to 8 per cent.
The drug survey was carried out in a representative sample of the population, drawn from people aged 16–79 and carried out both with a submitted questionnaire online and by telephone interview.
