The government will commit to a new international marine environment agreement – Dagsavisen

The draft of a new law to implement the agreement in Norwegian law will be out for consultation until 6 January 2025.

– The countries of the world agree on a global goal to preserve 30 percent of nature by 2030. The new international environmental agreement will help the world reach this goal. The agreement will, among other things, ensure that impact assessments are carried out before activities in international sea areas, says Climate and Environment Minister Tore O. Sandvik (Ap) in a press release.

International sea areas, the areas outside national jurisdiction, make up two-thirds of the world’s oceans.

The agreement will be an important contribution to strengthening marine management in these areas, says the press release.
