Man in jail after shooting outside Wichita school

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) – A 46-year-old man is in jail following a shooting outside Cessna Elementary School on Monday.

Wichita police said on Tuesday that the 46-year-old man shot the woman multiple times after an argument. The woman tried to get help by running towards the school, and the man ran after her, laid on top of her, and put a gun to her head. A deputy shot at the man twice and attempted to disarm him. It took the deputy and two WPD officers to disarm him. Both the man and woman were taken to the hospital. A Wichita Public School staff member saw the man approaching the front door and pulled the door shut, locking it so the man could not get inside.

The man has been released from the hospital and has been booked on suspicion of attempted murder in the first degree, aggravated assault of a law enforcement officer, criminal use of a weapon, domestic battery, criminal restraint, aggravated battery, aggravated kidnapping, aggravated assault, and interference with a law enforcement officer. KSN does not name a suspect until they are charged. No word on when he will make his first court appearance.
