Real Madrid is also in the quarter-finals after beating Twente 3-2 in the same group earlier on Wednesday. The last two rounds are just about who will be the group winner and who will finish last.
Chelsea played the reserve character in the away game against Celtic last time and had to turn 0-1 to win 2-1. On Wednesday, the blue jerseys were star-studded in their own main hall, and they took the lead before two minutes had been played.
Lucy Bronze scored with a great volley from a corner kick from Catarina Macario. It was her first Champions League goal for Chelsea. Previously, Bronze has scored for Lyon, Manchester City and Barcelona.

Chelsea would be ready for the quarter-finals even with a draw, but did not intend to concede points on their own turf. In the 25th minute, the lead was doubled after another corner kick. The serve was cleared back to Reiten, who hit a perfect cross Wieke Kaptein just needed to get his head on.
The home team was in full control and chased several goals, but were unsuccessful against a visiting team that defended doggedly. Early in the second half, Reiten’s finish was saved on the line.
Eventually, coach Sonia Bompastor replaced several of the stars in view of Sunday’s postponed Super League match against Manchester United.
Reiten was relieved in the 70th minute, when she was replaced by Ève Périsset. The latter determined the result in the fifth minute of overtime.

Real Madrid win
Earlier on Wednesday, Real Madrid won 3-2 over Twente in Enschede with goals from Linda Caicedo, Signe Bruun and substitute Alba Redondo.
After Wednesday’s games, Chelsea have 12 points, Real Madrid 9, Twente 3 (and two losses against Real), Celtic 0.
