PlayStation Gamer Misses Out on PS5 Pro Anniversary Edition for Unlucky Reason

Key Takeaways

  • An unlucky PlayStation fan misses out on PS5 Pro 30th Anniversary Edition due to a bank misunderstanding.
  • The bank fraud alert during vacation caused the fan to miss their opportunity to add the console to their collection.
  • The limited availability of 12,300 units causes disappointment for some fans eager to purchase the console.

A PlayStation gamer missed the opportunity to buy a PS5 Pro 30th Anniversary Edition console due to an unexpected misunderstanding with their bank. Earlier this month, Sony revealed a lineup of limited edition PlayStation products, including a PlayStation 5 Pro with a PS1-inspired look.

Shortly after officially revealing the PS5 Pro, Sony announced a 30th Anniversary Edition PlayStation collection that included consoles and controllers with a PS1 design. Because of its nostalgic appearance, fans were eager to get their hands on the units. However, considering that only 12,300 copies of the PS5 Pro 30th Anniversary Edition were made, not all players were bound to obtain the console. Though it was expected that exclusiveness would limit players’ chances of buying the collection, one particular gamer couldn’t get their PS5 Pro for an even unluckier reason.

Reddit user ParappaTheWrapperr shared how they were unable to get a PS5 Pro 30th Anniversary Edition because of a problem with their bank. The player was on vacation when the console sale went live and as they tried to buy it, the transaction failed because their bank detected the purchase as fraud. Given that the PS5 Pro 30th Anniversary Edition immediately sold out in some regions, this might have been the player’s sole chance to add it to their collection. The standard version of the PS5 Pro is still available for pre-order, though its $700 price tag was widely criticized. Regardless, quite a few PlayStation fans were willing to spend $1,000 on the 30th Anniversary PS5 Pro bundle.

While the original poster has not elaborated further on the matter, fellow gamers empathized with their misfortune and gave their condolences. “We all have war stories,” wrote one user. Other commenters pointed out the bank’s effective alertness as a silver lining, even if the purchase was not fraudulent. On the other hand, one fan suggested customizing their console themselves to resemble the PS1-themed one. The limited-edition PS5 Pro bundle was sought not only by fans but also by scalpers who wished to take advantage of its high demand. One PS5 Pro scalper tried to charge $10,000 for an “attempt” to obtain the 30th Anniversary Edition.

The few fortunate fans who managed to secure their PS5 Pro 30th Anniversary Edition will receive it on November 21. Meanwhile, Sony recently announced a new PS5 Chroma Collection featuring chrome console and DualSense controller covers. The covers will be available starting November 7, and they come in three colors: indigo, pearl, and teal.
