Swedish police are no longer allowed to enter Norway – Dagsavisen

This is because the Swedish police are no longer allowed to enter Sweden. The cooperation has meant that Swedish and Norwegian police have been able to operate freely across the border in Värmland, Dalarna and the neighboring Norwegian county of Innlandet.

The effort was made possible by the fact that the Norwegian police have been armed due to an increased threat level in Norway.

The threat level has now been lowered, and the Norwegian police are again patrolling unarmed. This means that Swedish police, who are always armed, are no longer allowed to cross the border to Norway.

– You get frustrated. After all, we work together with the Norwegians, and this means that we are not allowed to be in Norway, says Joakim Kristiansen, group leader for the police on the Swedish side of the border, to SVT.

The Norwegian Police Directorate explains that the decision to cancel the armament is in line with Norwegian law.

– The police in Norway are unarmed. It is a political decision, he says and emphasizes that the Swedish police must follow the Norwegian regulations.
