Kristin Harila is going on an expedition to the South Pole to mark a new foundation – Dagsavisen

In 2023, Kristin Harila and Tenjen “Lama” Sherpa set the world record for climbing all the world’s highest mountains 8,000 meters above sea level, in 92 days.

A few weeks later, Tenjen Sherpa died in an avalanche while supporting another climber.

– I am launching this foundation to continue and build on Tenjen Sherpa’s commitment to fair, safe and professional working conditions for everyone who works on and around the world’s highest and most dangerous mountain, says Harila.

The purpose of the Lama Sherpa Foundation is to promote safety, fair working conditions for Sherpas, porters and others who work for climbers, as well as to create sustainable value creation in the local communities in the Himalayas.

– We must create a culture where safety and justice always come first. The Lama Sherpa Foundation will work for that, says Harila.

To mark the launch, Harila will embark on a 1,130 kilometer expedition to the South Pole. She hopes the expedition will honor the work of Sherpas and porters, as well as raise awareness of the foundation.
