Pokemon Fan Designs Regional Variants for Porygon and Porygon2

Key Takeaways

  • Porygon and Porygon2 are uniquely artificial Pokemon with unique moves like Conversion.
  • Fan artist meluharegion created Egyptian-inspired regional variants named Pharaogon and Pharaogon2.
  • The Pokemon community constantly creates new designs, like one fan’s Golem-Porygon-Z fusion, showcasing its talents.

A Pokemon fan artist recently designed regional variants for Porygon and Porygon2. Porygon and its evolutions are some of the most uniquely weird creatures to appear in the first generations of Pokemon, and this artist had a pretty neat idea on how to devise an incredible variant for these unusual critters.

Porygon and its evolution Porygon2 are Psychic-type Pokemon introduced in Gen 1 and 2, respectively. Porygon stands out because it is a completely artificial Pokemon created using programming code, not needing to eat or breathe. The creature’s signature move is Conversion, a Normal-type ability that can be used to change the user’s type to the target’s current one during a battle, and only Porygon and its evolutions have access to it.

Now, a talented Pokemon fan called meluharegion has shared regional variants for Porygon and Porygon2 inspired by Egypt. Named Pharaogon and Pharaogon2, both designs look pretty unique, with the digital monsters gaining brown colors and the characteristic Pharaoh crowns. According to the creator, these are Ground/Psychic-type critters that guard pyramids and the tombs of ancient Pharaohs, making them some kind of artificial guard dogs for these deceased rulers. The new designs were praised by the Pokemon community, and some fans even asked meluharegion to devise a similar regional variant for Porygon-Z.

Pokemon Fan Art Imagines Regional Variants for Porygon and Porygon2

Earlier this year, a different Pokemon fan also came up with fan art that reimagined the popular Psychic-type creature. In this new design, Porygon was redesigned as a human, becoming a young and cheerful person with pink hair and wearing a shirt with the creature’s colors. Interestingly, the human character also looked distinctly computer-made like Porygon.

Regional variants are pretty popular in Pokemon fan art, and meluharegion is not the only artist to unveil one recently. A few weeks ago, another fan devised a regional variant for Magikarp, imagining how the karp-inspired creature would look if it came from a swamp. In this new design, Magikarp became rounder, heavier, and gained brown scales.

The Pokemon community is always coming up with interesting new designs, and at the beginning of 2024, another fan designed an amazing fusion of Golem and Porygon-Z. In the unique design, the gamer created a colorful round creature that maintained Porygon-Z’s colors and Golem’s round body but ended up looking like a weird colorful floating rock monster. Hopefully, other Pokemon fans will create more designs for Porygon and its evolutions in the future, showcasing their talents to the community.
