Hurricane Helene made landfall around 10:10 PM CT Thursday and quickly moved north. The Carolinas have been under tornado watches today. Two lows are now sitting to our east. One of which is Helene and the other is a low pressure system in the upper levels of the atmosphere.
These two working in tandem will bring more cloud cover west into Kansas today, tonight and on Saturday. No rain to be had for us, though — that all stays over Kentucky and Tennessee this weekend.
Friday Football Fever begins warm for tailgating and the first half of our games this evening. With sundown and the dry atmosphere, temperatures will be comfortable.
Overnight, we cool mostly into the 50s but temps will be slightly warmer with thicker cloud cover farther east.
Partly cloudy and warm on Saturday with highs in the 80s. This is a touch above average for this time of year.
The next cold front tracks from one side of the state to the other Monday through Monday night. Such dry air will be hard to form any rain.
Temperatures briefly cool on Tuesday but then bounce back again by Wednesday to the 80s.
A boundary will move into position next Friday. We might see a stray shower in western Kansas, coming out of Colorado with some weak energy, but I am not getting my hopes up for any beneficial nor meaningful rainfall.
There is a more pronounced cold front at the end of next weekend. This may have a limited engagement for showers and thunderstorms. Even then, it looks like a quick-hitter and not much rain will fall.
