This means that the American is one notch closer to a milestone that no alpine climber has reached. Shiffrin can reach 100 wins at home when the giant slalom and slalom races are held in Killington next weekend.

On Saturday, Shiffrin started as number one in Gurgl, and no one could match her time of 51.08 in the first round. The closest was the Swiss Wendy Holdener, who was beaten by 13 hundredths of a second.

In the final round, Shiffrin stood alone again at the top, and she kept her nerves under control even though Albanian Lara Colturi had driven impressively.

The American finished 55 hundredths ahead of Colturi. Camille Rast from Switzerland took 3rd place, while Holdener was knocked down to 4th place.

Norway fielded five alpine climbers at the start, but only Mina Fürst Holtmann made it through to the final round. She eventually finished in 24th place

Shiffrin is by far the most successful alpine skier in the World Cup. She passed Swedish legend Ingemar Stenmark when she took her 87th singles victory in March last year.

Shiffrin, who is engaged to Norwegian alpine star Aleksander Aamodt Kilde, has also collected an impressive 17 Olympic and World Cup medals.
