After 80 seconds, Marcus Rashford scored his first goal in nine games. Omari Hutchinson equalized for Ipswich just before the break.
The newly promoted team played themselves up in the match, and Liam Delap in particular had some tough encounters with Manchester United goalkeeper André Onana.
– I feel Ipswich was clearly the best team. They created much more. The best of the course for me is Onana, who was in the impossible corner, said Viaplay’s expert PÃ¥l André Helland.
The last chance delivered a fever save when Delap finished from only six or seven meters in the first half. Onana came out in a star and averted the striker’s finish. After the break, Delap was even closer to the goal, but Onana was on the scoresheet.
Amorim probably had a lot to think about after the first match. Two bright spots were that he got to see Luke Shaw and Mason Mount.
Shaw got his first minutes since February for Manchester United, while Mount has only featured sporadically in the last two months.
United have only two wins in their last twelve away games in the Premier League.
Amorim is the sixth permanent manager for the red shirts since Sir Alex Ferguson resigned eleven years ago.
Ruud van Nistelrooy led the charge in four games after Erik ten Hag’s departure with three wins and one draw.
On Thursday, Amorim will make his debut at Old Trafford. Then it is Kjetil Knutsen and Bodø/Glimt who will compete with the red shirts.
