One died in a plane crash in Lithuania – Dagsavisen

Four people were on board the plane – two pilots and two DHL employees. The plane crashed into a two-storey residential building, and a fire broke out on the spot, the newspaper writes Delphiciting local authorities.

One person has been confirmed dead, and three others have been taken to hospital. According to a police representative, it was the pilot who died, writes Delfi.

– I send my deepest condolences to the family and relatives, says Mayor Valdas Benkunskas in Vilnius in a statement.

What caused the accident is currently unknown. Police chief Arunas Pauluskas says that they cannot rule out the possibility of terrorism.

– This is one of the theories we have to investigate. There is a lot of work that needs to be done, he says at a press conference.

Twelve people were evacuated from the building that caught fire after the crash, but no injuries have been reported to any of the residents.

The plane was on its way from Leipzig in Germany and was due to land at the airport in Vilnius early Monday morning. The plane crashed just over two kilometers before reaching the runway, before sliding into the house, head of Lithuania’s rescue service, Renatas Pozela.

The police were notified of the accident at 5.31am.
