The health committee will adopt the government’s new abortion law – Dagsavisen

This is confirmed by SV and Rødt VG after the meeting of the committee where the recommendation was made on Tuesday.

There has been disagreement as to where the limit for self-determined abortion should be. While some have believed that the limit should be 12 weeks, others have advocated extending it to 18 weeks.

A third group has advocated that there should be mandatory guidance for women who want an abortion between weeks 12 and 18.

The Christian People’s Party has reacted strongly to the fact that their staunch supporter in many cases, Sp and Høyre, have released their representatives. In the FRP, too, the Storting representatives are free to vote what they think.

It thus appears that the government’s proposal for an extension to 18 weeks will pass in the Storting.

According to a count carried out by NRK this summer, it is likely that the government’s proposal will win a majority in 18 weeks.

Another contentious topic in the proposal for the new law has been that it is also proposed that fetal reduction be defined as abortion, and that pregnant women can thus make their own decisions up to week 18 without interference from the tribunal.

Fetal reduction means an intervention that interrupts the pregnancy for one or more fetuses in a multiple pregnancy, while the pregnancy continues for one or more of the other fetuses.
