The Mayor of the Greater Istanbul Municipality, Ekrem Imamoglu, expressed his belief in the possibility of establishing an alliance for the upcoming local elections. In press statements during which he answered questions about the possibility of an alliance with the Geydi Party, Imamoglu said: “I do not consider it correct to comment on the discussions taking place at the leadership level from here, but I believe that an alliance can be formed for Istanbul.” “These conversations will be expressed in due course.”
He added, “When the right time comes, there will be grounds for reasonable talks, including with Akşener.”
This comes after statements made by the head of the Geyid Party, Meral Akşener, in which she announced the party’s abandonment of the coalition system in the upcoming elections, saying: “We have abandoned the coalition system, and we intend to participate alone in the elections, not only now, but also in 2028.”
At the same time, the decisions issued by the Al-Jaid Party meeting confirmed that the alliance will not take place in the upcoming elections.
