– Of course I’m excited about the election, I think the whole globe is excited, says Christina Skovsgaard, head of Democrats Abroad Norway, to NTB.
There are approximately 9,000 American citizens living in Norway. 2,300 of them are members of Democrats Abroad. Globally, in the 2020 presidential election, more than 900,000 Americans living outside the US submitted their votes.
The states have different rules and requirements for the ballots, but there are still more people who accept votes by fax, explains Skovsgaard. Other states accept email and various apps.
I think more people will use their right to vote this year
– There are several states that allow voters to send the ballot paper via fax, because they think it is safer, Skovsgaard continues.
The federal agency Federal voting assistance program assists those voters living abroad who need help, but they are overloaded, according to Skovsgaard.
– Three days ago they announced that they no longer had the capacity to receive ballot papers by fax, they are overloaded. I think it may be an indication that there are more people using their right to vote in this year’s election, she estimates.
American citizens living in Norway can get practical help with voting from Democrats Abroad, also if they plan to vote for Donald Trump.
– We help both Republicans and Democrats to use the right to vote, we are committed to that.

Election vigils in several places in Norway
On Tuesday evening, many Americans in Norway participate in election vigils.
– There are five or six election vigils that are open to our members, several in Oslo, one in Stavanger and one in Røros, says Skovsgaard.
This summer, she was one of the delegates to the national meeting of the Democratic Party from abroad who attended the national meeting where Kamala Harris was formally announced as presidential candidate.
– In the democratic party, Democrats Abroad is considered a state, and we send 13 delegates to the national meeting. This year I was one of them.
