'Big Boy,' the 1.2 million pound Union Pacific train, will be in Kansas

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW)—Big Boy No. 4014, the historic Union Pacific railroad engine, will soon return to Kansas.

The 1.2 million-pound locomotive has been on the “Heartland of America Tour,” which has stops in Arkansas, Colorado, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma and Texas. The eight-week tour concludes on Oct. 23.

Kansans will be able to see the engine on the following dates:

The UP says the scheduled times and locations are subject to change and to check back periodically for updates. Overnight stops are closed to the public unless otherwise noted.

The UP says 25 locomotives were built exclusively for the railroad, and seven are on display in St. Louis, Dallas, Omaha, Denver, Scranton, Green Bay, and Cheyenne.
