The Nigerian Police Force has reportedly detained the social media influencer Martins Otse, popularly known as the VeryDarkMan.
VeryDarkMan’s lawyer, Comrade Deji Adeyanju, tweeted about the development on Wednesday, October 31. He added that he was detained after honouring the police invitation on Tuesday, October 30.
However, Adeyanju did not disclose the reason the police detained the social media influencer after honouring their invitation.
The tweet reads:
“Our client, VDM has been detained after honouring police invitation just like yesterday. VDM who has been consistent in saying the Nigerian Police are our friends even when we all know they are not.”
Recall that the police strongly denounced VeryDarkMan’s (VDM) unauthorized use of their uniform in his recent video. In the clip, VDM donned a police uniform and humorously referred to himself as “Chief Superintendent of Police of the Online Division.”
According to the force, an investigation has been launched to uncover the source of the attire and address the improper usage. This move aims to maintain the integrity and dignity of the police force. A police statement emphasized that wearing the uniform without authorization is a serious offence and undermines the professionalism of law enforcement.
VeryDarkMan’s actions have sparked concern, with some questioning the ease of accessing police attire. The investigation seeks to address potential security breaches. The police have urged the public to report any similar incidents, stressing the importance of respecting the symbols of authority and maintaining public trust in law enforcement institutions.
