California’s 56th Assembly district, Lisa Calderon vs. Jessica Martinez – Whittier Daily News

Voters on Tuesday, Nov. 5, gave their final say on who will represent the area’s 56th Assembly District.

The state Assembly seat represents southeastern portions of L.A. County and the San Gabriel Valley, including the communities of El Monte, Hacienda Heights, La Habra Heights, La Puente, Pico Rivera and Whittier.

Incumbent Democratic Assemblymember Lisa Calderon, who was first elected in 2020, is running against former Whittier City Councilmember Jessica Martinez, a Republican.

Calderon was a legislative aide to then-Assembly Speaker Willie Brown early in her career, while Martinez’s time on the Whittier City Council included a stint as mayor pro tem.

Tuesday’s rounds of results from the L.A. County Registrar’s Office Subsequent results will be released through the night and in coming days.

In early results from the L.A. County Registrar’s Office, Calderon jumped to an early lead in the race for the seat, with 55.12% of the vote to Martinez’s 44.88%, as of an 11:19 p.m. update.
