Capcom Has Good News for Ace Attorney Fans

Key Takeaways

  • Capcom reaffirms commitment to Ace Attorney franchise, aiming for future milestones like 25th and 30th anniversaries.
  • Gyakuten Saiban, or Ace Attorney, has expanded into various media beyond video games, including comic books and live-action.

Capcom will continue to produce Ace Attorney content, the company assured fans as the series nears its 24th anniversary. The last mainline Ace Attorney game, Spirit of Justice, was released in 2016, but a spin-off and several collections have also come out since then.

Widely regarded as one of Capcom’s most influential franchises, Gyakuten Saiban, known in most parts of the world as Ace Attorney, is a series of visual novel adventure games. The IP has branched out to other forms of media aside from video games over the years, having delved into comic books, stage productions, and a live-action movie. Capcom now says that it plans to do even more with the Ace Attorney franchise in the future.

Talking to Japanese media outlet and polling website Netlab, Capcom’s Kenichi Hashimoto flat out declared that the company would not stop producing Ace Attorney content. Hashimoto, who produced the well-received Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney Trilogy that launched in January, made similar remarks in a past interview. Capcom specifically wants to develop the Gyakuten Kenji, or Ace Attorney Investigations spin-off, in various ways, including through the lens of mixed media, Hashimoto told Netlab. He also said that the company wants Ace Attorney to reach its 25th and 30th anniversaries. The franchise’s titular debut title initially released on the Game Boy Advance on October 12, 2001.

Hashimoto was unable to disclose any details regarding Ace Attorney‘s developments, but he promised that Capcom would make an announcement about them in the future. His latest interview was published before the series’ latest release, Ace Attorney Investigations Collection, came out on September 6. This compilation contains the two entries in Ace Attorney Investigations, Miles Edgeworth and its sequel, Prosecutor’s Gambit. The latter is considered by some to be among the best games in the entire Ace Attorney franchise.

The Ace Attorney series has shipped around 12 million copies worldwide, Capcom revealed in June. Resident Evil, with its 160 million cumulative sales, was the company’s top-performing property, followed by Monster Hunter, which managed to ship 103 million units. Capcom is set to release the next Monster Hunter game on February 28, 2025.

A seventh mainline entry in the Ace Attorney franchise has yet to be officially announced, but many fans are convinced that this will come out in the future. While the world waits for that, people may want to try out other games that have you play as a lawyer, such as 2023’s Tyrion Cuthbert: Attorney of the Arcane.
