Christina Applegate may have won an Emmy for her guest star appearance in Friends — but she’s just now watching the iconic show for the first time.
On the Tuesday, October 15 episode of her and Jamie-Lynn Sigler’s “Messy” podcast, Applegate, 52, and Sigler, 43, revealed she had recently started watching the NBC franchise after the pair discussed watching television at night to quell their anxiety.
“You know me, I turn the TV on and just stays on 24 hours a day,” Applegate shared. “Except for the Bravo shows, they just stop it. Then if I fall asleep and I don’t have my white noise, which is Bravo or Peacock now, then I have to press it again. I kinda like how it just plays, but then I miss an episode of something. Like I’m on Friends right now. Yes, I was on Friends twice. I had never seen it before I was on it.”
Applegate noted that she’s on season 8 of the series even though she just “started three days ago.”
“So I don’t have a problem with anything, do I? No. It’s totally fine,” she joked, before adding that Friends is such a “good show” to watch. “That’s what’s so funny is I literally won an Emmy on that show and I had never seen it before I went on and now I’m obsessed.”
The Dead to Me actress went on to explain how she had watched her own episodes after she appeared on the show, but she didn’t know what was going on in the series.

“It’s so good, it’s such a good show,” she gushed.
Applegate starred as Jennifer Aniston’s sister, Amy Green, in two episodes of the popular sitcom. She took home an Emmy award for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series for the 2003 episode “The One Where Rachel’s Sister Babysits,” which shows Amy moving in with Rachel (Aniston) and Joey (Matt LeBlanc).
While Applegate may not have seen an episode of Friends before, she previously opened up about being surprised at winning an Emmy award for her guest performance.

“It was shocking that I was nominated for the episodes I did because it honestly didn’t feel like work,” she told Today in 2019. “And it didn’t feel like I was doing anything special in any way. I was just having so much fun. I really was in shock when that happened. It was one of those moments of, like, ‘Why … What, me?’ Like in Sixteen Candles when she’s like, ‘Me?’ And he’s like, ‘Yeah, you.’ That’s how I felt when they said my name.”
Applegate then recalled how she realized that Friends would be such a beloved show.

“I remember talking to Marta [Kauffman] about Friends. And this was while we were working on Jesse. And she said the stars just aligned,” she said at the time. “You had these six people who were just the most perfect actors for these parts, relatable, and they’re so funny. And it doesn’t often happen where everything works. Plus, it’s just a great show. It’s got heart, it’s funny.”
Friends, which ran from 1994 to 2004, followed six friends — Aniston, LeBlanc, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matthew Perry and David Schwimmer — who all live in New York City. The series won six Emmy Awards with 62 nominations.
