Crews shut down 710 Freeway to clean up fuel spill caused by big rig crash

Part of the 710 Freeway was completely shut down early Tuesday morning following a crash involving two big rigs that spilled fuel across the roadway.

The crash was reported on the southbound span of the 710 just north of the Alondra Boulevard exit in Compton around 12:20 a.m., according to preliminary reports from CHP.

Video from the scene obtained by KTLA shows a heavily damaged semi-truck with fuel leaking out.

A second big rig involved in the crash had the shipping container it was carrying overturn; it also sustained minor front-end damage.

The cleanup process took longer due to debris that spilled from the second semi involved in the crash.

A SigAlert was issued indicating all southbound lanes of the 710 in the affected area would be closed until the scene was cleared.

By 5 a.m., the freeway was reopened, CHP stated.

What caused the crash was not immediately clear. No injuries were reported.
