A driver was killed and his passenger injured in a fiery crash into a light pole in Redondo Beach late Wednesday night.
Emergency crews responded to reports of a solo-vehicle crash at Palos Verdes Boulevard and South Catalina Avenue shortly after 11:15 p.m., the City of Redondo Beach stated in a news release.
Firefighters found the vehicle was engulfed in flames after the driver somehow lost control and hit a light pole.
Investigators learned the vehicle’s two occupants at the time of the crash were a man who was driving and a woman in the passenger seat.
The unidentified driver was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the news release.
No further details about the death were provided but freelance media firm OnScene.TV was at the scene and reported that the driver had been ejected from the vehicle and decapitated.
The woman who was in the passenger seat sustained only minor injuries and was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
Investigators are working to determine the cause of the crash.
There was no word on whether drugs or alcohol were factors or if the vehicle had been speeding.
