  • Scarlet Witch’s fate is uncertain, but Marvel Studios could bring her back through alternate universes or flashbacks.

Elizabeth Olsen plays one of the most powerful characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Wanda Maximoff, also known as Scarlet Witch. However, she thinks the character is dead but still has the chance to return to the franchise.

Olsen made her Marvel debut in the 2015 movie Avengers: Age of Ultron. She has since appeared in several MCU films, including Captain America: Civil War (2016), Avengers: Infinity War (2018), Avengers: Endgame (2019) and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022). She starred in her own series, WandaVision, on Disney Plus in 2021. However, Olsen was convinced her character did not survive in her last appearance on the big screen in Doctor Strange 2.

Olsen appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live and was asked about Wanda’s fate in the MCU. The host wanted to know if Scarlet Witch was still alive because she appeared to have died in the last Doctor Strange movie. Olsen said she had the same assumption about her character — that Scarlet Witch was dead. Jimmy Kimmel noted that rocks landed on Wanda, and Olsen added that there was a red light of explosive energy, suggesting that her character was indeed dead. When Kimmel pressed on if she was told about Wanda being dead, Olsen didn’t confirm it but shared her personal view about Wanda’s fate. “I think I’m dead,” she said.

However, Olsen wanted to leave room for a potential comeback because she enjoyed filming Marvel movies. When Kimmel asked her if she didn’t want Wanda dead, she said, “No. ” “I would like to figure out how to cleverly be undead,” she replied. Kimmel was supportive, noting that Wanda could potentially find a way to come back from the dead, considering her power. “I think so too,” Olsen agreed, adding, “We need to find the smartest writers to figure out how to make this all make sense.” She jokingly added that Kimmel could probably help, stressing that she was “open to ideas.” In the same interview, Olsen was asked who, between her character and Chris Hemsworth’s Thor, was a more powerful Avenger. Olsen picked her character, Scarlet Witch. “I think I am,” she told the host. “I think, theory has it that Wanda could beat him or maybe. Yeah, I don’t know, I’ve never played with the hammer,” she jokingly added. Olsen said that Wanda could go inside Thor’s body, manipulate him and do what he does.

Scarlet Witch’s fate in the MCU is unsealed. Although she appeared to have not survived the destruction of Mount Wundagore after sacrificing herself by destroying it along with the copies of the Darkhold across the multiverse, the Marvel Studios usually finds a way to have their favorite characters return. There are multiple ways to bring back Olsen’s Scarlet Witch on the big screen or TV shows. She could appear in an alternate universe or in a flashback or prequel that explores her backstory. Also, they could use Wanda’s mystical nature and magic to bring her back from the dead or tie her into a new narrative, which makes sense considering her complex relationships with the other Marvel characters.

Olsen will be a good addition to the upcoming Avengers 5 and 6, mainly because of her character’s complex nature that surrounds the theme of grief, power and redemption. Also, Scarlet Witch is powerful and her unique abilities can be a good contribution in helping the Avengers defeat their formidable foes. Wanda’s complex relationship with the other heroes could also serve as a good story arc in creating potential conflicts and alliances. Overall, it will be great to see Olsen’s Scarlet Witch in another Marvel movie.
