Elton John reveals that he has lost sight in one eye

Music legend Elton John says an infection he got earlier this year has left him without sight in one eye.

The “Rocket Man” singer revealed in September that a severe eye infection had left him with “only limited vision in one eye.” At the time, John told his Instagram followers that he was healing but that it was “an extremely slow process” and it would “take some time before sight” would return to his eye.

While speaking with ‘Good Morning America’ host Robin Roberts recently, John, 76, said his eyesight had not returned.

“I unfortunately lost my eyesight in my right eye in July because I had an infection in the south of France,” John told Roberts during the interview, which aired Monday. “It’s been four months now since I’ve been able to see, and my left eye is not the greatest.”

“So there’s hope and encouragement that it will be OK,” he continued, adding that he is “kind of stuck at the moment.” According to John, he “can’t see anything, can’t read anything, can’t watch anything.”

The “I’m Still Standing” singer said, however, that he is working “to try and get it better.”

“I’m just very lucky and very grateful,” he added.

John told Roberts he is proud of his “attitude toward himself and what is going on,” as well as his sons and his upcoming documentary, “Elton John: Never Too Late.”

The documentary, which follows John as he reflects on his career while preparing for his final concert in the U.S., is set to be released on Disney+ on December 13 after a “limited theatrical run” in the U.S. and U.K. John’s husband, David Furnish, served as a director and producer on the project.

Earlier this year, Sir Elton John achieved EGOT status after winning an Emmy for a three-hour concert documentary, “Elton John Live: Farewell from Dodger Stadium,” which focused on his final Northern American concert.
