Famous L.A. music festival announces lineup via crossword puzzle

Instead of a regular poster, Camp Flog Gnaw had fans do a bit of work to find out who is on this year’s festival lineup.

The festival, which was started by L.A. rapper Tyler, The Creator, in 2012, has evolved from a parking lot carnival to a full-on two-day festival with world-famous headliners.

And while most festivals typically reveal the lineup on a regular poster – often sorted by the day each artist is performing – Tyler decided to do it differently.

In a post to Instagram Friday, the official festival page laid out a blank crossword puzzle and said that the clues to the answers — all of which were artists performing this at this year’s festival — would be available for an hour on the festival’s website.

Social media were quick to begin solving the puzzle in the comments, but it didn’t take long for the festival to come out and fill in the blanks for everyone

Like the founder of the festival himself, the lineup is a bit all over the place: rapper-turned-flautist André 3000 will be performing his “New Blue Sun” album, English musician Sampha will have a set and the rapidly-rising Tommy Richman — who went viral earlier this year with his smash-hit “Million Dollar Baby” — will also perform.

Also included in the festivities is a special never-before-seen tribute set in honor of the late MF DOOM called FM MOOD. Tyler, The Creator himself is also set to perform songs from his album “CHROMAKOPIA,” which releases Oct. 28, live for the first time at the festival.

Passes for the festival, which takes place on Nov. 16 and Nov. 17, sold out within minutes, but there is a waitlist for those interested in seeing if they can snag a ticket.

Camp Flog Gnaw gets its name from Tyler, The Creator’s Golf Wang streetwear brand; “Flog Gnaw” is “Golf Wang” in reverse.
