For five seasons, Vince Carter played his heart out for the Brooklyn Nets (then known as the New Jersey Nets).

And now the team will honor Carter and his career by retiring his No. 15 jersey, according to Michael Scotto, per NBACentral.

The team announced their plans on Thursday morning, setting the date for the retirement in January of the new season.

Upon this announcement of Carter’s jersey retirement, fans hopped online to share their thoughts.

Some people feel that Carter easily earned the honor of a jersey retirement.

He averaged 23.6 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 4.7 assists during his five seasons with the Nets and was one of their biggest stars.

Other people think Carter didn’t quite reach the threshold for a jersey retirement.

However, they note that because the Nets haven’t won a championship as an NBA team, they have to celebrate any star who has made a substantial impact.

Finally, a large number of people were left questioning why the Toronto Raptors haven’t retired Carter’s jersey yet.

He got his start in Toronto and spent seven impressive seasons with the Raptors yet his jersey is still not hanging from the rafters.

Perhaps the Nets’ decision will motivate the Raptors to do the same.

After his years with the Nets, Carter moved on to the Orlando Magic, Phoenix Suns, Dallas Mavericks, Memphis Grizzlies, Sacramento Kings, and Atlanta Hawks.

He played all over the league but his years with the Raptors and Nets are remembered most.
